Serve on a GSA Committee

Consider serving on one of the following committees:

GSA Election Committee

The Election Committee of the GSA is a standing committee that decides about the GSA election procedures and ensures that all participants follow the election code. Members are appointed annually by November and membership is open to all enrolled graduate students who have paid their GSA fee.

Those who have volunteered to serve on the Election Committee have found the work to be rewarding for a number of reasons: it provides experience working with a non-profit organization and fills a vital function in the proper functioning of the GSA. People who have served on the Election Committee have moved on to become GSA Officers or stipend staff members.

The GSA E-Board will call for new volunteers to serve on the 2023-24 Election Committee at the October 4, 2023 Board of Directors meeting (6:30 pm via Zoom). Anybody interested in serving on the Election Committee should pre-register and attend the October Board meeting. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Vice President, Sarah MacDougall, before the Board meeting.

GSA Finance Committee

The Finance Committee of the GSA is a standing committee that decides about all financial policy decisions and the GSA budget. It consists of nine members and two alternates and is headed by the Treasurer. Members are appointed annually in September and membership is open to all enrolled graduate students who have paid their GSA student activity fee.

The Finance Committee meets once per month to discuss and decide on recommendations for Symposium, Special Activity, Interdepartmental Activity, Community Outreach, and Scholarly Publication applications that the Board then votes on. It also formulates the GSA’s budget and reviews all purchases of capital equipment.

Those who have volunteered to serve on the Finance Committee have found the work to be rewarding for a number of reasons: it provides experience working with a non-profit organization, offers avenues to get involved with GSA, and of course gives direct access to certain GSA decision making procedures. Many who have served on the Finance Committee have moved on to become GSA Officers or stipend staff members.

The GSA E-Board will call for new volunteers to serve on the 2023-24 Finance Committee at the September 6, 2023 Board of Directors meeting (6:30 pm via Zoom). Anybody interested in serving on the Finance Committee should pre-register and attend the September Board meeting. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Treasurer, Melanie March, before the Board meeting.

GSA Services Committee

The Services Committee of the GSA is a standing committee that generally acts as fact-finding body, to bring recommendations and findings to the full Board of Directors. It consists of nine members: five members, a GSA Executive Officer, MDRF Director, Programming Coordinator, and Editing Services Director. Members are appointed annually and are approved by the GSA Board of Directors.

The Services Committee investigates issues at request of GSA Officers or Board of Directors. It serves to collect information and issue reports to the Board on various GSA services and is meant to replace previous ad hoc committees.

Working for the Services Committee provides a number of benefits: experience working with a non-profit organization, avenues to get involved with other GSA functions, and of course direct access to certain GSA decision making procedures.

The GSA E-Board will call for volunteers to serve on the 2023-24 Services Committee at the September 6, 2023 Board of Directors meeting (6:30 pm via Zoom). Any member interested in serving on the Services Committee should pre-register and attend the September Board meeting. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the GSA President, Isaac Kolding, before the Board meeting.
