I study the development of British heritage sites, primarily focusing on memorialization and tourism. My interest is piqued by battlefields, exhibition grounds, and political protest locations. My research tracks what happens to these places after the historic event occurred through the lenses of preservation, urban policy, and memory.
A second area of interest includes sport in the British Isles, particularly extinct sport places and the migration of golf to continental Europe and North America in the late nineteenth century. My Master’s thesis at St Andrews explored class considerations and nationalism during the first century of the Open Championship.
