Anthro Convergence Symp.

The Anthropology GSA Convergence Interdisciplinary Symposium is an annual symposium hosted by the Anthropology GSA. The goal of this symposium is to provide a setting for the presentation, discussion, and dissemination of work related to a central theme by graduate students from different disciplines. This year’s theme is “The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse” and it is designed to reflect the intersection of Pestilence, War, Famine, and Death in human life and history, as well as their singular effects on human cultures, histories, and in the techniques that societies have dealt with these problems. Anthropological work and that of other disciplines in recent years have often focused on these issues and how they interact, follow each other, and how people might influence and be influenced by the resulting trajectories. These processes have been debated in new ways that are far removed from simplistic prime-mover theories. Convergence 2014 will be much larger than in recent years, with 24 speakers from more varied disciplines throughout the 4 sessions and will encourage much wider attendance. This symposium also encourages involvement and attendance from around the SUNY Buffalo and western NY academic area.
