“Archiculture” Screening

October 2, 2013 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm

The film is depicted in the lens of an architecture school, and takes a thoughtful, yet critical, look at the world of studio-based design education through the eyes of a group of students finishing their design Theses. The film highlights topics relevant to all types of design-oriented degree programs and their related fields. The range of topics that the film covers includes the nature of studio culture, subjectivity and design criticism, design school versus professional practice, design education and techniques, etc.: all experiences that young creatives are exposed to in a design-oriented degree program. Throughout the film, interviews with leading professionals, historians, and educators help create a crucial dialog around these key issues faced by the unique teaching methodologies used in design education.

After the screening, a discussion with the invited guests (the film’s producer and a student participant) will provide an opportunity for a diversified audience to contribute to a conversation on the various strategies of design-oriented education, teaching, and its relationship to practice.
