The first meeting of the collective GSA Senate will be tomorrow, September 6th at 6:30pm, with sign-in starting at 6:00pm. GSA Senate meetings are on the first Wednesday of every month. If you have that time available and are interested in serving as a senator for the Social Work GSA (more information on that position at our first meeting, see events), consider attending tomorrow at 6:30 at 330 Student Union for a trial of what Senate meetings are like.
The first meeting of the GSA Senate will also feature a call for members of the finance committee – this position is open to any graduate student who has not had their GSA student fee waived (this is generally only the case with MBA/MSW or JD/MSW students, due to the business and law schools having their own, separate student government structure). Information about the position follows:
“The Finance Committee of the GSA is a standing committee that decides about all financial policy decisions and the GSA budget. It consists of nine members and two alternates and is headed by the Treasurer. Members are appointed annually in September and membership is open to all enrolled graduate students who have paid their GSA fee.
The Finance Committee meets once per month to discuss and decide on recommendations for symposium, special activity, interdepartmental activity, community outreach, and publications applications that the Senate then votes on. It also formulates the GSA’s budget and reviews all purchases of capital equipment.
Those who have volunteered to serve on the Finance Committee have found the work to be rewarding for a number of reasons: it provides experience working with a non-profit organization, offers avenues to get involved with SBI, and of course gives direct access to certain GSA decision making procedures. Many who have served on the Finance Committee have moved on to become GSA Officers or stipended staff.
The GSA E-Board will call for new volunteers to serve on the 2016-17 Finance Committee at the September 7, 2016 Senate meeting (6:30 pm in SU 330). Anybody interested in serving on the Finance Committee should attend the September Senate meeting. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Treasurer, Anastasia Stepanova, before the Senate meeting.”
The first meeting of the SSWGSA will be on 9/19 from 12:30-1:30pm in 560 Baldy Hall. It will include a brief introduction to the services we provide and opportunities to be involved with GSA and the university as a whole.
The collective GSA has the following events this month:
Congratulations on having a week behind you!
