My concentration is in nineteenth-century American history, primarily the Civil
War. My research explores the cultural impact of the conflict, focusing in on the
civilian/soldier schism which developed throughout the war as civilians sought to
understand the war in abstractions, while soldiers—tempered by their combat
experiences—came to a different understanding of what they were fighting for. My
advisor is Dr. Emberton.
