My research focuses on post-WWII African American urban history. I am interested in how race, politics and economics intersect and often disrupt socioeconomic development in underprivileged communities. My dissertation examines Black Power organizations and grassroots community organizing in Buffalo, NY, Rochester, NY and Cleveland, OH from the 1960s-1980s. Through this historical research, I am seeking to gain a thorough knowledge of the urban development of this region from the African American perspective. I plan to use this historical knowledge of postwar urban issues to create more effective public policy solutions that ameliorate the living conditions of impoverished urban communities.
